Influencing Today’s Leaders to Determine Tomorrow’s Future

The Teach the Politician project aims to bridge the gap between young people and politicians and provide a platform for young people to engage with political leaders on climate issues

As a youth-led organization, Mock COP values grassroots action and believes that change starts at the local level. We understand the crucial role of influencing decision-makers in our homes, schools, and parliaments, and that is why we are thrilled to announce the launch of our latest initiative, the Teach the Politician (TTPo) project, building on the success of the Teach the Teacher and Teach the Parent projects. TTPo aims to empower young people to educate and influence political leaders on the urgent need for action on climate change.

Collaboration between political leaders and the youth community is essential to combat the climate crisis. In order to reduce the growing carbon emissions and transition to a sustainable, low-carbon future, it is crucial that political leaders take action in conjunction with the voices and actions of young people.

The Teach the Politician project aims to bridge the gap between young people and politicians and provide a platform for young people to engage with political leaders on climate issues and to collaborate with other local and national climate initiatives. By creating and delivering presentations to political leaders in their home countries, young people will share the science of climate change, its impacts on young people, and the urgent need for action. Our lobbying will be rooted within the decisions made by young people, for young people, at the Mock COP virtual conference held in 2020 in the lead-up to COP26.

Through this initiative, young people will have the opportunity to make their voices heard and influence political decision-making on climate change through intergenerational collaboration. Alongside sharing their knowledge and passion for climate action, youth voices will actively lobby politicians to implement urgent climate action, more comprehensive climate education, and deliver meaningful youth engagement to harness the present and build a more inclusive and sustainable future at the local level.

At Mock COP, we firmly believe that young people have the power to drive change and shape the future. We have seen this power in action through our previous initiatives, and we are confident that Teach the Politician will be equally effective in empowering young people to influence political leaders.

We are excited to launch the Teach the Politician project and provide young people with the tools and resources they need to make a difference in climate change. We urge all young people to get involved in this initiative and join us in making their voices heard and to demand action from political leaders. Together, we can create a sustainable future for ourselves and for generations to come.

Join us in tackling the climate crisis and achieving climate justice for all.
